Artist at Work

August 27, 2020

Westby senior Ashden Christian lent her time and talents this summer to draw and paint the Thunder logo above the cafeteria entrance. It’s a good thing she’s not afraid of heights, as the project required the use of scaffolding. Thank you, Ashden, for sharing your talents with the school community and for a job well done.

When the 8:10 AM bell sounded August 19, 2020, the Westby School hallways, which had been quiet for just over five months, came alive with the buzz and excitement of 53 students starting the 2020-2021 school year. The administration, faculty, and staff welcomed the students back to the building that day, along with instruction on ways to keep themselves and each other safe. ‘Be safe!’ has become the catchphrase for the entire school community.

Mr. Tony Holecek, District Superintendent, welcomed the students and community back with the following: “It has been a great start for our school to begin the 2020-21 year. That start has been made possible by the teamwork of our staff, students, and parents. I can’t thank the staff enough for their willingness to teach safe, our students to work on being safe, and our parental support in the campaign to keep our school and students safe during this time. It remains paramount that we physically distance ourselves at all times, we continue to adhere to solid hand hygiene standards, we continue to disinfect surfaces we have recently used, and continue to stagger our times in regards to lunch and hallway use. Always remember that being safe is the best way to protect you and those around you.”
